3. First steps with memoQ AGT
After you receive the confirmation email, you can log in to memoQ AGT.
The main memoQ AGT window opens.
Here you can:
- Check your current character usage – translated and remaining characters.
How do we calculate characters?
In memoQ AGT characters are source and target content + translatable source.
Under the Current usage section, you can check how many Used characters (Source characters and Context) as well as the Remaining characters you have.
What does the usage number include?
- the source segment to be translated,
- the source and the target of the TM, LiveDocs, and TB hits,
- the character count in your project.
What does Context mean?
Those are TM, LiveDocs, and TB matches - source and target character count.
AGT counts ONLY the source and target characters of the context and the source characters of the translated text. It doesn't count the prompt.
There is a limit to the context you can use based on your TMs and TBs.
Remember, providing too much context information can overwhelm the prompt and result in rejecting the translation request.
- Create an API key
You need an API key to authorize the memoQ AGT plugin in the memoQ TMS.
To create your API key:
-
- Under the Remaining characters field, enter the name of the key. Make it as descriptive as possible so you can find it later and know who is using the key.
- Click the Create API key button.
- The New API key created page opens, displaying your newly created API key.
Save this API key. memoQ AGT will not display it again. If you lose it, you need to create a new one.
- To activate memoQ AGT in memoQ, go to the AGT plugin settings window, and paste the API key in the API key field.
- Remove an API key
You can remove an API key that you no longer use.
To do that:
- Go to the main memoQ AGT window.
- Under the API keys section, find the key you want to remove and click the Remove link.
- memoQ AGT opens the confirmation window. Here, you can verify basic information about the key you are about to remove.
- To confirm, click the Yes, remove API key button.
The API key creation date and description will still be visible under the API keys section, but the key will be permanently removed.
To keep the API key, click the No, keep it button.
Tips and Tricks
You should know that:
- memoQ AGT works better with more resources and bigger translation volumes.
- If you do not have a lot of resources, try to pre-translate your document in sections.
For example, the first section will cover segments 1-10, the second section segments 11-30, and the third section segments 31-70. This way, you can leverage from your own translations.
- Your translation memory should follow your terminology. If your TM contains wrong or old terminology, pre-translation can use it.
- Translation memories are the most important resources you can use.
- Term base matches are always send to memoQ AGT.
