Installing Let'sMT plugin in memoQ
How to use the Let’s MT! plugin for memoQ
Some information about Let’s MT!:
Before going into the details of how to use “Let’s MT!” it is important to note that it is a EU Commission funded project that is still in a Beta stage. It collaborates with different stakeholders from the public sector, SMEs, universities, research and education community, etc. to enrich its corpus.
It is a “Statistical Machine Translation” (SMT) system, in other words a system that learns to be more precise as you input more material into its corpus.
Although it covers all the European languages its main focus is on “smaller languages” that the main MT systems usually overlook or are less efficient with. (Languages such as Latvian, Lithuanian or Croatian)
Finally if you wish you may also create an MT engine and “feed it” your own material, in order to do so access www.letsmt.eu, As it is still in private Beta you will need to register with Let’s MT! by email.
Getting started with Let’s MT! in memoQ:
There are two ways to use the plugin in memoQ, you can log in as an anonymous user or using your user credential (only possible if you are a Beta user), because we do not have access to the Beta this tutorial will concentrate on how to use the plugin as a free anonymous user. (The only difference being that anonymous users have access only to the public engines whereas logged in users have access to more engines)
Step 1: Open memoQ / Resources / Resource Console / MT settings and edit the Machine Translation setting.
Step 2: Open “Let’s MT! plugin"’s “Options” menu.
Step 3: Tick the “Anonymous login” radio button.
Step 4: Make sure “Only running system” is checked on, otherwise you might connect to engines that actually are offline.
Step 5: Click on refresh and select your pair of languages of choice amongst those available.
Step 6: Select the engine of choice for that pair of languages (there might not be any alternatives as on the snapshot below).
Step 7: Click on “Select” (to confirm your choice) on the lower right side corner of the window and then “OK”.
Step 8: Check the “Let’sMT!” “Enable plugin”.
Step 9: If you have followed the previous steps correctly, you should now begin receiving hits whilst translating.
Reminder: This technology is still in a Beta stage.
Also you might have to wait a couple seconds longer for the MT translation to show up.
